What are Neodymium Magnets?
Neodymium Magnets are the strongest commercially available Magnets. Also called Rare Earth Magnets or NdFeB Magnets (nd magnets, neomagnets), they are made of an alloy of neodymium, iron and boron. What are the grades of Neodymium magnets? What does the letter N stand for?
The grade of a Neodymium magnet indicates its magnetic strength – the higher the grade, the stronger the magnet. This grade is indicated by the letter N followed by a number (usually 35 up to 56). It is linked to the magnetic flux output per unit of volume, and increases with the quantity of Neodymium present in the magnet. Our standard products are N35 but we have many magnets in stock with N38, N40, N42, N45, N48, N50, N52, N56 grades.
How strong is a Neodymium magnet?
The strength of a Neodymium magnet depends on multiple factors like size, shape and magnetic grade. You can find clear specifications like the pulling force / force of attraction in the product page. For reference, a D.12×3 mm Neodymium Disc with N35 grade has an attraction force of 1,8 Kg, whereas with N52 it has 3,10 Kg. But a N56 Magnet with the same size reaches 4,5 kg !!! What is the maximum temperature at which Neodymium magnetic discs can be used?
Our standard magnets have a maximum working temperature of 80 °C, but we can produce magnets on request that can reach up to 200 °C. Check out our Heat Resistant Magnets Page
What are the possible coatings for disc magnets?
We can produce Neodymium magnets with nickel, rubber, plastic, resin, zinc, black epoxy, white epoxy and gold coatings! Our magnets can have iron, plastic, rubber or PVC housings.
What are the magnetization options for disc magnets?
Usually, our magnets are axially magnetized, but we can also produce diametrically or radially magnetized magnets. Custom-made disc magnets according to your needs. Do not hesitate to contact us.
How can disc magnets be held in place?
These magnets can stick to any ferromagnetic material (usually iron and steel) or even other magnets. If you need to fix them to a non-magnetic material (like plastic or wood) or if you need to fix them very thightly there are many options:
– Glue for magnets : our range of glues specific for magnets. Acrylic, Epoxy and two-components glues. Standard glues do not guarantee the same performance in contact with magnets and tend to crack over time.
– Threaded hole discs and Threaded hole magnetic systems : magnetic discs and cylinders with a threaded hole. M3, M4, M5, M6, M8 or custom made. Perfect to be fixed in place with a bolt, a screw or a threaded fastener. Screwable onto a threaded rod.
– Threaded rod discs : magnet discs with a threaded rod. M3, M4, M5, M6, M8, M10 or custom made. The threaded element makes them easy to screw into thread holes or to function as a support for other threaded components.
– Threaded socket discs : magnet discs with a threaded socket. M4, M5, M6, M8 or custom made. The threaded element makes them easy to screw into thread rods or to function as a support for other threaded components.
– Countersunk hole discs , Double countersunk hole discs and Passing hole magnetic systems : magnet discs with a countersunk hole. Perfect to be fixed in place with a screw to wood, plastic, non-ferromagnetic materials and more. Available with double countersunk hole (on both sides) for maximum flexibility.
– Self adhesive discs : magnet discs with 3M adhesive. Self-adhesive, Easily remove the tape from one side to firmly attach the magnet to most surfaces. The strong 3M adhesive ensures a strong and long-lasting hold.
